Jon Stewart Makes Tasteless Iraq Crack

    By Kyle | February 24, 2008

Stewart gave a so-so monologue; the best joke was “Normally, when you see a black man or a woman president, an asteroid is about to hit the Statue of Liberty.” True dat. He also laughed at his own joke about “Norbit” and made a strange crack that his stripper name was “Olympia Dukakis” (huh?). Very much the low point was his incredibly tasteless remark comparing Iraq War movies to the ongoing effort by US troops–he said the war movies have faced ups and downs but we must stay the course because “Withdrawing the Iraq movies would only embolden the audience. We cannot let the audience win.” Awful. Smug. Callous. Inexcusable.

It’s like they wrote that joke in Oct. 2006. I mean to make that crack at a time where victory in iraq looks as likely as its ever been.Inexcusable fo real. Typical Hollywood, completely oblivious to the reality on the ground. As usual, they continue to confirm each other’s delusions..and on and on the rabbit hole goes …

Whose confirming whose delusions? A reduction in violence from absolutely horrifying to merely terrifying does not a victory make. Whatever happens, I guarantee you this, the Iraquis will never look on us kindly for our generous act of warfare. The best we can for now is a stalemate. Some victory, guys.
