PC Madness

Should Rahm Emanuel be forced to resign for saying (in a private conversation) an idea was “f—ing retarded”? More in my Sunday column.

No.
This is one of the things about conservatives that bothers me. Back when Obama made his “Special” comment I would have gained a lot of respect for him if he said “It was a joke, get over it.” I’m all for hoisting the PC police on their own petard but this is stupid.

No. First of all, Rahm was right, though for the wrong reasons.
Second, I wait for that moment of clarity when I can firmly and confidently plant both feet on the Palin bandwagon and its yet to come.

And now she has defended Limbaugh’s use of the same term because he uses humor and satire! She is just way too moroni…idioti…stupid to lead any kind of meaningful political movement. I really hope the economic right can find someone intelligent and who has been a consistent fiscal conservative to support.

@ John FN Wayne. With or without you, Sarah is here to stay, for a while. She has a very passionate constituency, and she’ll be a force within the GOP for 2010 and 2012. She’ll be helped along tremendously by condescending mockers on my side of the aisle, like Olbermann (the left’s Hannity or O’Reilly, but without the ratings).
Sarah connects with a populist slice of the electorate that feels very alienated. She’s a Tea Partier all the way.

‘Populist’ is the new ‘fascist.’ A word that means nothing except that which is bad.

@ Kyle. You are finding a put-down where none was intended. I was using populism as a descriptive term — even if the description is admittedly vague — not as a perjorative. I don’t even think it’s an inherently negative term. And there is current populism on the left, but not nearly as vibrant as the Palin variety. Kucinich represents left populism, but he doesn’t begin to have the star power, appeal, or constituency that Palin does.
I am using populist as an anti-establishment/Wall St/Washington catch-all, with right and left manifestations. You get my drift…

No, Emanuel should not be forced to resign–and I don’t think that Palin ever thought that he would. I believe that people with mental disabilities are very close to her heart, and this is more than a political thing for her.
I love knowing what politicians say when they don’t think it will be made public. Obama’s remark about people who get bitter and cling to guns or religion is more revealing than anything he will ever say in public about religion.
