Watch Me on “Red Eye”
By Kyle | December 17, 2009
The adventure never ends when you have my job. Today alone, I saw “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” was told I need to find a funny ski hat and/or parka to pose for a picture to go with my Sundance stories and invited to appear on Fox News Channel’s “Red Eye” with the funniest guy I know, Greg Gutfeld. The show is on at 3 a.m. so crack open the Maxwell House and fire up the percolator. Greg thinks “Inglourious Basterds” and “The Hangover” are two of the most overrated movies of the year.

I think the Tarantino hate comes from the knowledge that people know that Tarantino is very aware of how talented he is.
And I love that he throws it in their faces with lines like “I think this just might be my masterpice.”

I think you’re on to something. He’s more devoted to the pulpy films he grew up loving than Oscar bait - he doesn’t play to the proper audience, like Spielberg admitted to doing at a certain awards show recently. “Pulp Fiction” was aimed at 70s culture and comic book fans, “Kill Bill” was Spaghetti westerns meet drive-in Kung Fu and “Inglorious Basterds” is more than a little reminiscent of “The Dirty Dozen” - not exactly “The Reader.”
And I think Greg is wrong on “The Hangover.” Waiting diligently to see “Inglorious Basterds.”
The big question: Will there be a “Post” vs. “Times” showdown between Kyle and Pinch?

Kyle - Any reason you haven’t been on Red Eye before? I’ve seen your columns and reviews cited on the show, and your conservative politics cum New York media status seem like the perfect fit.

Pat, I dunno. It’s really a comedy show and it takes a special kind of talent to be a success on it. Greg is brilliant at it.

Re. your last sentence: I’ve got one number for Greg…care to guess?

Kyle — I am a fan of your writing and glad to see you finally show up on Redeye. Re Greg, I agree on The Hangover, the worst movie I ever paid to see.
