    Review: “The Fourth Star”

    By Kyle | October 28, 2009

David Petraeus for president? It’s impossible not to be impressed by Petraeus, who along with three other top generals is profiled in detail in the new book “The Fourth Star.” My review is up.

Glad to see Cloud and Crown take on the subject. Compared to pre-Vietnam, there is a rather disinterest in the media to covering Generals. Given the power and responsibility these individuals have, these are personalities that should be investigated, not just given the broad stroke. Everything I know of David Petraeus is from Michael Yon.

Petraeus and McChrystal now stand for the dangerous proposition that the US military with enough men and materiel can rebuild societies and turn thousands of years of culture therein on it’s head. The surge may have succeeded in Iraq, but only to a point. Will it last? Suspect both have had their warrior synapses gobbed up with Ivy League nation-building nonsense, for which the grunts and America will ulitmately pay a bloody price. Don’t like Obama, but would respect him a great deal if he pulled the plug on all of this, but likely he’ll split 40K men down a bit and keep feeding the insanity. It’s a strange day to see that Joe Biden might have it right.
