    “Slumdog Millionaire” Goes to India

    By Kyle | January 13, 2009

“Slumdog Millionaire,” which seems to have a chance to win the Best Picture Oscar that I have assumed for months would go to “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (a film that, anecdotal evidence suggests, is being found irritatingly long by a lot of viewers) is about to open in India–where it may not capture the imagination as it has here. Indians don’t want to see squalor and poverty on screen because they know what it’s like up close.
