“As the Mighty Tide Swept the Land Tuesday Night…”
By Kyle | November 6, 2008
Roger Ebert gets his Soaring Political Oratory on. I like and respect Ebert’s film writing and I wish him good health in what must be a horrifying battle with cancer. As for his political musings, well…Dirty Harry administers the noogie here. (Isn’t Obama, by the way, supposed to be the guy who will make the oceans stop rising and not become a mighty tide that sweeps over the land? I seem to recall having heard this promise from…someone.)
A particularly puzzling line of Ebert’s is: “Even more lives have been lost by our coalition forces than by our own.” I don’t get this, not merely because it’s so factually laughable–that part isn’t surprising–but because it actually reverses the (itself false) point liberals always make about how the US of Bush supposedly “goes it alone.” If the rest of the coalition actually had suffered more than we did, it would suggest massive multilateralism, wouldn’t it? I assume Ebert is about to correct himself so I’ll reprint the relative portion here:
We will bring our troops home, in the right way. Am I against the war? Of course. Do I support our troops? Of course. They were sent to endanger their lives by zealots with occult objectives. More than 4,000 of them have died. Even more lives have been lost by our coalition forces than by our own.

An Obama supporter waxing Biblical about the rise of “the One” accusing other people of being zealots…seriosuly?? Hey pot, it’s kettle. You’re black.

I think you mean “the relevant portion.”
“by zealots with occult objectives.”
Ebert needs to consult his dictionary more often. And what’s with the “unsmiling men standing in the shadows” who “used” President Bush? The chemo has apparently addled Ebert’s brain.

I haven’t been gloating over the victory as it’s not my style, but, hey, stop this crap. Your’re losers, okay? Stop whining like little girls, grow a pair and move on. You lost. It’s over. You’re embarrassing yourselves. The best man won. Game over.

At some point in the past 8 years, according to Ebert, we lost our right to freedom of speech, but luckily it will be restored. I guess all those people in prison for criticizing Bush will also be released.

Ah, Hunter, but the game is never over, don’t you see? A new game has just begun. The difference: we are now on offense. Which, frankly, is a lot more fun.

I haven’t been gloating over the victory as it’s not my style,
It’s also not your victory. You’re from England, remember?

Hey, check out European reaction to Obama’s election:

Those Europeans are just so civilized!

Hell has frozen over. I’m going to defend Hunter. He actually was very gracious after the election and dare I say bordered on being magnanimous.
Also factions of the right have taken this a bit more personally than they should which in my opinion puts them in the same asylum as most of the fanatical left who are acting as though God has descended from heaven (ala Ebert in this case). Both sides are being more than a little melodramatic, albeit on opposite ends of the spectrum, and everyone needs to take a deep breath.

“Your’re losers, okay?”
Everyone loses with a marxist.
When you steal money from the top and give it to losers who don’t work, soon no one works, and everyone is a loser.

I somehow doubt he’d have been so nice if McCain had won.
