Democratic Convention liveblog:
Mark Warner said in his keynote speech that President Bush’s biggest failing was that, after 9/11, he didn’t simply issue a “call” or fiat that we would no longer be dependent on foreign oil. (Never mind that President Bush has repeatedly given speeches along these lines, saying we need to break our “addiction” to foreign oil.) Later in the same speech, Warner said that in four months we’ll have a president who actually believes in science. What science is it that declares you can just stop oil imports? Why is that during the eight years of the Clinton administration, the Democrats didn’t accomplish such an easily-reached goal?
Here is an excerpt from the transcript of Warner’s speech:
Think about it: After September 11, if there was a call from the President to get us off foreign oil, to stop funding the very terrorists who had just attacked us, every American would have said, “How can I do my part?” This administration failed to believe in what we can achieve as a nation, when all of us work together.
