Jets: We Can’t Beat Patriots, So We Might As Well Sell Shirts

    By Kyle | August 7, 2008

Check out the New York Jets website: they don’t seriously think getting a 96-year-old quarterback is going to bring them within shouting distance of the Patriots. What they want is to sell some Brett Favre crap. They’re selling his shirt on their homepage, not on their merchandise sub-page. Good luck, Jets, but raising the mean age of your roster by 10 years is not the way to go.

I believe that this was a brilliant move by the Jets. The moment, a month or so ago, that I heard that Favre might come back with another team, I said “what a good fit for the Jets!” Pennington will be gone, as he should be, and Favre can provide a learning experience for Clemens, who has shown similar skills but of course is incredibly raw.

I predict that this will light a fire under the Jets not seen since Vinny stepped in for Foley back in ‘99 or so. This was just the sort of zap in the pants this team needed.

The rallying cry should be “No Excuses!”, because now we have everything we need to fight to be one of the elite eight at the end of the season.

Who knows, it might work. Look at the Chiefs when we brought in Montana. Oh, wait… that didn’t work out so well.

      It IS smart Kyle.

Tom Brady is 31. That’s only 7 years younger than Brett. Brett has never missed a start, been effective enough to to the NFC Championship and OT loss, to the champs NY Giants.

Being “young” in the NFL for QBs is often the path to failure: Alex Smith, Matt Leinart, and so on. It takes time to adjust from College, maturity, beyond general fitness it doesn’t require massive amounts of muscle or speed or quick reflexes.

Consider Jeff Garcia, versus Donovan McNabb. Besides, without a cheating edge and now that people know how to attack Brady, the Patriots will lose a lot more games than before. HE is not that much younger than Favre, and his team has lost people.

A great QB is not enough, but is required to compete for the Superbowl. You can get by with a great-rotten schizo guy like Grossman for a while, but it will bite you.

More like the Rams getting Joe Namath.
