    First Anniversary of This Blog

    By Kyle | May 27, 2008

This blog went live on May 26, 2007, or exactly 14,325 hours after I first started trying to figure out how to launch a blog. (Thanks, Nancy Largent!) The first posting was a review of “Pirates of the Caribbean 3″ (”may look like a blockbuster, but has the soul of a three-hour U.N. committee meeting”), although I later went back and posted some back-dated movie reviews originally published in the Post but unviewable by anyone without a Nexis subscription (thanks to the strange quirks of our ever-developing Web site, which simply ditched its entire archive of movie reviews upon a redesign in August of 2005).

Initial response was muted. There were 1889 unique visitors in May followed by 4700 in June succeeded by a dismaying (alarming?) 4133 in July. If I was a CBS executive, I’d have cancelled myself. But the addition of hard-core pornography, tips on home bomb-making and heartfelt poetry about kittens boosted interest and last month 30,000 unique visitors showed up. Do I shirk my duties? I do not. I call 781 posts in a year (drawing 2010 comments) strong circumstantial evidence of diligence.

Which is a long way of saying: this is my only posting of the day. I had other things to do. I leave you with the words of P.G. Wodehouse, and Eminem. You sort out which is which.

You may leave it to me, Comrade Windsor. I am no hardened old journalist, I fear, but I have certain qualifications for the post. A young man once called at the office of a certain newspaper, and asked for a job. ‘Have you any special line?’ asked the editor. ‘Yes,’ said the bright lad, ‘I am rather good at invective.’ ‘Any special kind of invective?’ queried the man up top. ‘No,’ replied our hero, ‘just general invective.’ Such is my own case, Comrade Windsor. I am a very fair purveyor of good, general invective.

Here’s my ten cents, my two cents is free
A nuisance? Who sent? You sent for me?

Congratulations on your anniversary, but couldn’t you have picked a better rapper to quote than Eminem?

Congrats on Year 1 and for producing a damned entertaining blog, even if it’s an outlet for the Vast Rightwing Conspiracy. Goal for Year 2: Piss of Patrick Sheridan as much as possible. Get his Irish up! My only regret is that St. Paddy’s Day comes only once a year, bejesus.

Kyle, if you can survive a year of this then fatherhood should be a breeze. Congratulations.
