    By Kyle | May 9, 2008

Like a Ferrari stuck in traffic on 42nd Street “Speed Racer” is fast and slow at the same time. My review is up.

“His older brother, a champion driver himself, dies young. Perhaps he couldn’t bear living a moment longer knowing that - with the last name Racer and parents who were willing to use Speed as a given name - they saved it for the next kid and stuck him with ‘Rex.’”

Well, at least he got to inspire a Big Black song (SPOILERS):

I’m not actually so sure that this movie is aimed at kids. Has anybody much under the age of 30 actually seen the original cartoon? If there is an audience for this, I bet it is nostalgia-addled late boomers and Gen Xers.

Oh man, interest in “Speed Racer” is so negligible, no one even seems interested in trashing its non-success!

the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
