    On Prison Reform

    By Kyle | September 8, 2015

In my Sunday column, I take a look at the case of a Missouri state senator who went to jail for crimes stemming from mailing a postcard. Madness.

Reading about Smith’s tribulations makes you wonder how many others are locked up because they didn’t have anyone to rat on or because of prosecutorial spite or a burning need to throw the book at him.

      Many, no doubt.

I wonder what the punishment would have been if he hadn’t lied under penalty of perjury?

He didn’t go to prison for sending a postcard, he went to prison for intentionally violating campaign finance laws and committing perjury to cover it up. He committed a blatant and illegal act of corruption to win an election, then when he was punished for it he decided to blame the whole prison system. Excuse me if I don’t break out the violin for him.

The underlying offense was the postcard. For a man to end up in prison for a year for such a joke of an offense is itself a crime.

Did Smith plead guilty? Maybe I missed something in the column.

I thought that Dinesh D’Souza was punished too harshly, but at least he was sentenced to a halfway house.

I know someone who spent time in prison for white-collar theft. He found the halfway house more difficult than the actual prison, b/c there was less monitoring of inmates, so the abusive types had a freer hand.

I would never have believed on 9/11/01, that in less than 10 years, the useful idiots in this country would elect a Muslim interloper that hates America, to the Presidency- TWICE!!! And here we are in 2015, and that same Muslim traitor gave his blessing to Iran getting a nuke.

They imagine and hope that placating the jihadists will make them play nice. Doesn’t work that way, unfortunately.

Not at all, Jordy. You’ve bought it, and are peddling it too (despite not being able to spell the word).
