    The Re-”Taking of Pelham 1 2 3″

    By Kyle | March 24, 2008

A remake that might actually be interesting: Tony Scott directing “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3″ with James Gandolfini stepping in for the Ed Koch-before-Ed Koch-like mayor and John Travolta and Denzel Washington matching wits in the deeply improbable yet fiendishly thrilling tale of a terrorist who hijacks….a subway train. Tony Scott’s mad visuals are always a big hyper-caffeinated but “True Romance,” “Enemy of the State” and even “Spy Game” were all sharply realized.

One Response to “The Re-”Taking of Pelham 1 2 3″”

The pre-Ed Koch Ed Koch-lookalike in the first flick is eerily clairvoyant. Though I do have a tough time imagining Crazy Eddie K hiding under the sheets and sniveling — that was more of an Abe Beame knockoff, I guess. Koch woulda been more like the fat guy who came bounding down the tracks toward the train only to get smoked by Robert Shaw.
