Stop Hating on “The Godfather: Part III”

    By Kyle | May 9, 2014

I just watched it again and I still say it’s one of the best films of 1990. The Blu-Ray comes out Tuesday.

I totally agree. If GF III was a stand alone movie, it would be considered a classic- and it was up for Best Picture in 1990. It was reported that boyfriend, Johnny Depp, was pushing Ryder to pull out for some alleged health issues she was having.

The movie could have used Duvall as well but he wanted more cash. It would have been even better with those two but I thought the kissing cousins bit was odd.

The scene early on with Garcia and Fonda with the botched hit was stellar.

I didn’t hate it, but it was such a sharp dropff from 1 & 2 that I just don’t “count” it. The story ends for me with Michael having Fredo killed. Perfectly ok picture, though I have zero interest in seeing it again.

I felt the same way after I saw it when it opened but after watching GF3 several more times, I liked it, even with it’s flaws that were mentioned.

the only things good that came out of this bomb was that it predicted Andy’s role in “Oceans” and it made sure sure that Sofia stayed BEHIND the camera and did some good work…

I find the entire trilogy overrated now, but used to be quite a Godfather junkie. By today’s standards, the third one may seem a successful attempt at a decade-late sequel, but “an intriguing conspiracist take on the events at the Vatican in 1979” is a tough one…there’s already a truckload of anti-Catholic conspiracy theories out there without another movie presenting them as historical facts – and Coppola’s vitriol on the DVD commentary confirms that.
