Other Movies This Holiday Season

“Amour” is an almost unbearably sad movie, but it’s another superb and uncompromising work from director Michael Haneke. I’d say it’s one of the year’s best movies, as as “Les Miserables” (which I picked as my no. 1 movie of the year) and “The Impossible,” an amazing story about a family caught up in the Boxing Day tsunami that hit Thailand. I listed “The Impossible” as my third-best movie of the year, and I put “Zero Dark Thirty,” which opened Wednesday, at no. 5. I also very much liked David Chase’s “Not Fade Away,” another holiday release.
